Girls Private School Basketball Rankings and Playoff Preview

Another regular season is finished in D.C. Private School play and unlike recent seasons, this one featured a bit more parity and exciting up-and-coming stars.  So as we prepare our final regular season ranking, we'll also preview the league tournaments ahead -- and focus in on which teams (and players) to watch this weekend.  Make sure to view our slideshow (CLICK LINK ABOVE) for the latest top ten rankings and each of those team's expected playoff match-up.

DCSportsFan's Impact Players to Watch This Postseason:

Center Libby Mosko (Georgetown Visitation) - There are a lot of players critical to the Cub's success and responsible for their undefeated league run this season, but in the tournament Visi will need their center to play big once again.  Already tasked with slowing down some of the most talented front court players in the area, senior will need to stay out of trouble for the Cubs to reclaim their league tournament crown.

Guard Janelle Hubbard (Elizabeth Seton) - Seton has the unenviable task of playing undefeated Good Counsel in the next round.  To pull the stunner, they will need Hubbard to match Lindsay Spann and others point for point and play for play.  Hubbard has scored in double-figures in every game this season, so she's clearly capable of putting up numbers.

Forward Rhamat Alhassan (Holy Cross) - The Tartans play Carroll in their opening match-up, so Alhassan will need to pitch in to help HC avoid an upset and to go far in the WCAC tournament.  Carroll topped Holy Cross earlier in the season but the Tartans should control this one if their front court plays a good game.

Forward Catherine Doulis (St. Stephen's / St. Agnes) - Senior is the second leading scorer for her team but must play big role alongside teammate Dhyamond Crenshaw in order for the regular-season ISL-A champs to become tourney winners.

Center Jasmine Bailey (St. John's) - Senior was missed badly when she was out midway through season.  For St. John's to have any chance at reclaiming the WCAC and City crowns, they'll need her defense and rebounding in anticipated match-ups with Holy Cross and Good Counsel.

First-Round Playoff Match-Ups to Watch:

McNamara vs. St. John's - We anticipate McNamara surviving its first-round match-up, and if they do it sets up another match-up with the Cadets.  St. John's crushed them in their most recent meeting -- but the Mustangs pulled the upset before, too.  Could they unseat the defending City champs?

St. Mary's Ryken vs. Paul VI Catholic - Both regular season match-ups were close, with each team getting one win.  This one means more, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.  Both programs have great scorers in Ariana Freeman (PVI) and Katie McCormick (SMR).
