Good Counsel Holy Cross Advance to WCAC Title Game

Good Counsel girls' lacrosse team hasn’t lost a WCAC game in years and has won the last eight conference championships. The Falcons will have a chance to keep both streaks intact after toping Bishop O’Connell in the semi-finals 18-7 on Thursday.

Paige Graham led Good Counsel’s scoring bonanza by notching four goals and dishing out three assists. Jennifer Morrissey also notched four Good Counsel goals.

Shea Cassidy and Caroline Peters each notched hat tricks against the Knights.

Good Counsel will face a familiar foe, Holy Cross, in a rematch of last year’s conference title game Monday. The Tartans edged Ireton 9-8 in Kensington, Md. on Thursday to advance back to the title game.

In the regular season meeting, the Falcons traveled to Holy Cross and walloped the Tartans 16-7.

Good Counsel’s Jennifer Morrissey led all scorers with four goals and added an assist. Meanwhile, Shea Cassidy posted a hat trick and notched four assists; Tori Cemy also notched four helpers.

The Tartans’ offense was led Mara Cassidy, Monica Lucas and Shannon Spellacy who each notched two goals.

The Falcons have shown a few chinks in the armor throughout the season in non-conference games with losses to other top local teams such as Visitation and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes. But Good Counsel did beat all conference foes by at least four goals.

The Tartans boast a 13-5 overall record and only dropped one WCAC game—to Good Counsel. Holy Cross also gave Visitation a very close 13-10 game.

Could this be the end of Good Counsel’s streak? Or will Holy Cross be another notch in the Falcons’ championship belt? The answer will come Monday at Ludwig Field on the campus of the University of Maryland College Park. DCSportsFan will be in attendance.
