Kendall Marshall's decision to enter the 2012 NBA Draft turned out to be the right one. The Bishop O'Connell graduate who spent the past two years running the offense for the University of North Carolina was drafted 13th overall by the Phoenix Suns.
After being selected, Marshall tweeted, "I can't believe this... I'm in the NBA."
Marshall will join a Suns team who may need a new starting point guard if Steve Nash doesn't resign with the team. Nash made $11,689,062 last season in the final year of his contract, but he is also being pursued by the Knicks, Nets, Raptors and Mavericks.
In addition to Nash, the Suns also have veterans Vince Carter, Michael Redd, Sebastian Telfair and Grant Hill coming off the books. Last year the five combined for nearly $25 million dollars in salary, so the team may be looking to get younger, which could mean significant minutes for Marshall as a rookie.
In the second round, former Archbishop Carroll standout and Syracuse swingman Kris Joseph was drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 51st overall pick. Joseph will join his college teammate Fab Melo, who went 22nd overall to the Celtics in the first round.
