Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington announces today that Ali Shafer has been named the new head coach for the girls lacrosse program. Shafer has served as assistant coach to former head coach Meghan O'Boyle for the past four seasons.
Shafer grew up in the Northern Virginia area and is a graduate of Fairfax High School. She played college lacrosse with O'Boyle at Longwood University in Farmville.
"Having worked with the girls in the program for the past four years, I have a strong sense of their character and work ethic," said Shafer. "I am thrilled to continue with the team as head coach."
"Coach Shafer has been instrumental in building our girls lacrosse program alongside Coach O'Boyle," said Athletic Director Joe Wootten. "She is an excellent teacher of the game with very innovative drills and techniques."
"We also wish Coach O'Boyle well as she and her husband move to California," Wootten added. "I know she will be cheering on the Lady Knights from the West Coast!"
