I'll just leave that there....

Grievis Vasquez was also named 1st team All ACC today, and he was a unanimous choice. Hes the first Terp to be 1st team since Steve Blake.
Jordan Williams was named to the All Freshman team, and was one vote shy of being unanimous.
Also, out of all the Mcdonalds All Americans that Duke and UNC got this year, none of them are on the All ACC Freshman team.
ACC Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year are announced tomorrow.

Wow, that is exceedingly good news that I had not heard yet. I didn't realize that stuff was announced pre-ACC tournament.

I'm way more excited from Jordan Williams. It'll be great to watch him devlop and it'll be great to watch two great area teams tear it up in March.

Jordan Williams is the most promising Freshman we've had post 2002. He is going to be ridiculous.

as a maryland fan, i have a request. can we stop trying to measure ourselves on this forum in conjunction with georgetown? its starting to seem like a little bit of an inferiority complex at this point. maryland has some good stuff going on right now--and i guarantee you neither gary williams nor any of the players have any thoughts of georgetown right now. i get that there's a bit of natural animosity because of the proximity of the schools but honestly, the teams dont play anymore, they're in different conferences..there is not much reason to compare maryland to georgetown more than there is one to compare them to george mason.

^I agree with most of what you said, but a lot of this is brought on by the Georgetown fans. Hoya fans have been doing some serious trash talking to us Maryland fans for the past 4-5 years even though they really havent accomplished much outside of the final four appearance, and yes, that is a very good achievement. But Maryland's been to 2 Final Fours in the past 10 years and actually won the National Championship. Maryland is a top 10 program of the decade and it pisses us all off when GU fans say how their program is on a higher level when they're really not.

Maryland games are seldom on tv outside the dc market and gary gets the players from dc and bmore that jtIII doesnt want. O and gtown actually graduates its players...

ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO.....GARY WILLIAMS. People (including myself) jumped down this mans throat. I thought his time at maryland was up. Others got on him because he didnt get the talent coming outof maryland (A. Freeman, Chris Wright, J.Clark, K. Joseph, Darnell Dodson, Ty Lawson, Mike Beasley) and the list goes on. The entir time he REMAIN TRUE to who he was. He got players that he KNEW would stay for 4 years and have developed one of the nations top teams. Grievis is who he is because of Gary. If you remember early in Vasques career he wasnt a "fan favorite." Now he could be named ACC Player of the year, and a possible 1st round NBA pick. Gary Williams without a DOUBT in my mind is the coach of the year in College basketball, maybe co-coach of the year along with Jim Behiem.

"I think saying Vasquez would be a 1st round NBA pick is just a little bit of a stretch..."
nbadraft.net has Vasquez shooting up to the end of the first round.. not saying that he will go, but his stock has definitely risen this season.

looking at the team Gary had coming into the season i dont thinknaming him the national coch of the year would be surprising. Call me CRAZY but i never fully and truly respected phil jackson as a coach. Some people say its tougher to coach very talented players but he has had JORDAN on one team and KOBE on another (top 2 players maybe to play the game) I say that to say i respect a coach MORE who doesnt have the "top" talent and is still able to win. Thats not saying calipari or any of theses other coaches who do a great job recruiting are bad coaches.

if the acc was a bit stronger and maryland went 13-3 in conference, i'd say gary might have a shot at national coach of the year, but i doubt its gonna happen. acc coach of the year though? yes- 100%. great job by gary this year, but in terms of national coach of the year you figure boeheim, calipari, frank martin, or maybe even bruce pearl have great cases this year... im sure i forgot someone.
