DeMatha guard Quinn Cook dribbled to the top of the key. The Stags were leading Bishop Ireton by 17 and in the middle of a 9-0 run, but the DeMatha wanted to land a knockout blow. Cook and Victor Oladipo, who was on the right elbow, made eye contact and Oladipo took off to the basket. Cook put up a perfect lob and Oladipo threw down the alleyoop to emphatically slam the door on the Cardinals.

The Stags used a second quarter surge to roll past the Cardinals 70-38 in a game that was close for a quarter and a half. Dematha and Bishop Ireton were knotted at 15 midway through the second quarter, but the Stags went on an 18-6 run.

"We started making shots that we were missing in the first half," DeMatha Coach Mike Jones said. "Some of the shots that we missed in the first quarter we made in the second quarter, and we got some balls to bounce our way."

Naji Hibbert started the run when he stole the ball from the Cardinals and raced down the court, finishing the break with a layup. Hibbert and the Stags were also aided by five Ireton turnovers during the run.

Bishop Ireton was hindered in the game when Arturo Oberg fell into foul trouble early and played only a few minutes, and with one of their top scorers limited to just 16 points, the Cardinals couldn't make a run to get back into the game.

"We struggled to score when Arturo [Oberg] went out the game," Ireton head coach Mark Vincent said.

But, sophomore guard Antonio Rouse once again shouldered the load and finished with 12 points. However, it wasn't enough to rally the Cardinals.

With Oberg limited, Stags' guard Michael Hopkins was able to dominate the paint both in points but more importantly on the glass, nabbing rebounds when the Stags' sharpshooting guards missed shots.

The Stags used a balanced attack to dismantle the Cardinals as Marcus Rouse finished with a team-high 12 points, followed by Derrick Banks and Josh Selby finished with 11 each.
