It was the Eric Schweitzer show last Friday night in Center Moriches. The versatile Babylon running back dominated this Division IV football game from the outset.
The Babylon Panthers traveled to Center Moriches on October 28th to take on the Red Devils in a match of two 5-2 teams. The outcome of this game would have playoff seeding implications for both teams.
Both teams’ defenses came out strong in the beginning of the first quarter trading “three and outs”. Babylon’s second possession of the game was the mood setter of this contest. Babylon began their possession on their 30 yard line and with a series of rushing plays found themselves with fourth down on the Center Moriches 34 yard line.
On the fourth and 5, Schweitzer came out of the backfield completely uncovered and pulled in a beautiful pass from Quarterback Zach Fredericks. Schweitzer raced into the end zone completely untouched by Red Devil defender.
This one play seemed to take all momentum away from Center Moriches as Schweitzer(19 carries, 167 yards) ran for two more touchdowns later in the first quarter.
Center Moriches didn’t get on track until the fourth stanza with a nifty 29 yard run by Jeff Foster(11 carries, 56 yards). By then, however, it was “too little, too late” for the Center Moriches Red Devil gridiron. The final score was 28-7 in favor of Babylon.
Center Moriches secured the 7th seed in the Division IV playoffs and will face Amityville(2) in Amityville on Saturday November 5th. Babylon(4) will host Shoreham-Wading River(5) on Friday, November 4th.
Rounding out the Division IV playoff schedule, Hampton Bays(8) travels to John Glenn(1) on Saturday while Port Jefferson(6) travels to Mount Sinai(3) on Friday.
