At some point during the Bears 31-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers, Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler broke his thumb on his throwing hand, and the injury could keep him sidelined for the remainder of the regular season.
Chicago is currently 7-3 on the season and would make the playoffs as the No. 6 seed if the season ended today, which it doesn't.
The only other quarterbacks listed on the Bears roster are Nathan Enderle, who is a rookie out of Idaho, and Caleb Hanie, a fourth-year player of out Colorado State. The two have combined for 14 attempts in their NFL careers.
Chicago may look to add a veteran free agent quarterback to get the Bears through the remainder of the regular season. Options include former Jacksonville standout David Garrard, but he is still rehabilitating from back surgery and won't be able to do anything for at least three weeks.
Chicago plays at Oakland next weekend.
