A must win game. That’s all the Manhasset baseball players were saying. We must win. Bethpage is a tough opponent and to make it even more interesting it was game three of the quarterfinals, win or go home.
There was something else in the air. Both teams were laying it all on the line, abusing their bodies, and diving for every play just to stop the ball. Tyler Juliano was on the hill for the Indians and he pitched exceptionally, pitching 4 2/3 innings and only allowed two hits, three runs, four walks and struck out two to get the win. Ryan Lennon came in for relief and got the save for Manhasset. Both Manhasset’s pitchers pitched very well and only allowed 3 runs throughout the entire game.
The bats for Manhasset came alive early and late. Manhasset scored 3 runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Early RBI’s were provided by Charlie Mack who walked in a run and Ryan Murray who hit a 2-run single. Then Manhasset scored two more runs in the fourth inning to seal the deal with a RBI single by Dan Connolly and an error on the Left Fielder.
Manhasset ended up winning 5-3 with a stellar pitching performance, timely hitting from several players, and great defense. Manhasset will be moving on to the next round with some momentum on their side.
“Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.”
