Bishop O'Connell athletic director Joe Wootten made the following announcement Monday regarding the head coaching vacancy for the boys lacrosse team:

We are excited to announce that Coach John O'Beirne has been named the new Head Lacrosse Coach at O'Connell.

Coach O'Beirne, along with being the top varsity assistant under Coach Giblin, brings a wealth of experience at the varsity level having served as the Head Coach of John Paul The Great and Trinity previously.

Coach O'Beirne commented, "It is an honor and privilege to be named the next head lacrosse coach at O'Connell High School. I am excited for the opportunity to coach in the competitive WCAC. I will work tirelessly to build upon the recent success our team has experienced through hard work and faith. I am committed to grow the O'Connell Lacrosse brand that our community, students and alumni would be proud to call their own."

O'Beirne will replace former O'Connell coach Kevin Giblin, who stepped down after the 2019 season. Giblin is the new associate head coach at Mount St. Mary's.
