Brian Griffin is returning to IMG Academy. St. John's College High School President Jeffrey Mancabelli sent the following e-mail Friday to the SJC community.
I am writing to inform you that after six years of dedicated service as the director of athletics and athletic development, Brian Griffin has accepted a position with IMG Academy and will return there in January 2020. This difficult career decision was truly about family. After being apart for the past two school years, Griff will be reunited with his family at IMG Academy, where his youngest child, Erin, is an eighth grader.
On behalf of the SJC community, I want to thank Griff for his leadership, passion, dedication and commitment to our students and the school community. Under Grif's leadership, St. John's elevated its athletic programs to the highest standards. His vision started with building a foundation of services for our students in health, nutrition, sports medicine and training. Through that process, he developed a culture of experience that taught our students about personal responsibility and what it means to be part of a team.
During the past six years, our student-athletes earned 29 championships in eight girls' sports (tennis, field hockey, soccer, cross country, volleyball, basketball, ice hockey and track and field) and five boys sports (football, basketball, wrestling, lacrosse and baseball). During this time period, the students learned important life lessons and what it means to support one another.
The Griffin family thanks the entire St. John's community, administration, coaches and student-athletes for their unyielding support. Griff and his wife, Rebekah, have nothing but love for St. John's and are grateful for the school community that supported their children, Connor '17 and Haley '18, who had amazing academic, athletic, and faith-based experiences at SJC.
We will begin the search process for the new director of athletics and athletic development in the new year.
